California Gold Rush
In 1848, James Marshall discovered Gold in the American River in California.
As the news spread people from all over the world drop everything to travel
to California in hopes to get rich. They traveled by land and sea. In 1849,
thousands of gold seekers had reached California. These people were called
Forty-niners. The California Gold Rush is a turning point in history because
after people rushed to California searching for gold the area became very
populated. With the influx in population California was able to become a
state in 1850. Americans thought of California as a waste land filled with
grizzle bears. With an event like discovering gold the west coast was found.
